This round of the “Cactus Trail Hero” award is going to a very hard working couple in the Nelson area: Amanda Pearce and Hayden Mckay.
Hayden and Amanda have done countless hours on the DH tracks over the years around Nelson including Fringed DH, Kaka, Face, Nevis and Broken Axe which was raced yesterday as part of the Nelson Mountain Bike Club’s DB Series. Events like that can only go ahead with loads of behind the scenes work to make sure the trails are in great shape.
After the last storm both worked alongside many other hard working helpers from NMTBC to help get trails open again. Hayden in particular spent several solid days clearing wind throw (dangerously positioned trees) to ensure the DH tracks and the popular trail rides were available. Being the only person in the Club with his wind throw chainsaw ticket a lot fell to Hayden and he got it done.
So thanks for all your hard work, there are lots of folks associated with the NMTBC who work hard every week to keep your trails awesome and it’s great to be able to recognise a couple of them this month. Hopefully we won’t cause too much stress in the house by giving one prize to share between two. First up best dressed and all that.
Thanks too to Olivia J for the nomination, we’ll flick you one of our awesome Trail Fund NZ drink bottles for your troubles. We will send the loot out via our mutual friends at Upshift so if you see Paul riding around with a brand new Zero…a big thanks to our friends at Cactus Equipment too for providing the prize again this time. Don’t forget to check out their full range of hard wearing products which are perfect for trail building:
Finally, a huge thanks to everyone who nominated someone, it’s awesome to hear about all the good work that is going on around the country and we’re back into the routine of doing these giveaways so plenty of time to get some other hard working Trail Hero’s recognised.
